Are you being a disciple?

I recently had an epiphany...the word 'discipline' has the word 'disciple' in it! There has to be a cool connection, so naturally, I did some digging.
The word 'discipline' means a method of teaching or training.
The word 'disciple' means someone who is learning or being trained.
This was a mind blowing realization for me! It was also convicting. I claim to be a Christian, which is a Christ follower, which is one of His disciples. If I am, in fact, a disciple, how am I disciplining myself, for His glory??
If I don't know Jesus and how He loved others by serving, how can I claim to be living like Him? #readyourbible
If I am not training my body and mind, how can I keep up with the mission that He has sent me on as a disciple? #getstrongerforJesus
Here's a hard truth, if you aren't getting to know Jesus, how will you know how to live like He did? And if you aren't pushing yourself to be strong and courageous...are you even being a disciple?
Set aside time to read your Bible and pray. Even if you have to give up some sleep or free time.
Get stronger physically. Move your body, take a walk in His creation, maybe build some muscle...stamina and strength will come in handy when doing the work of the Lord.
Do things for others. We are showing the love of Jesus when we sacrifice some of our time and resources to serve.
Find a friend or a group of believers to encourage on another. The support of other Christians is vital for uplifting encouragement and accountability.
Proverbs 27:17 NIV
As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another.
